21 Words

It started off as an epic full-length wonderfully written narrative poem for children about a young girl's desire to show her brothers that she wasn't 'just another girl' but could swim across to the haunted island and defeat the dreaded sea monster... but I got bored. Instead, I limited myself to 21 words and wrote a more succinct version:

The Sea Monster

It was green, of course
and it wrapped its tentacles
around my ankles
in a very greedy fashion.
"Ouch!" I said.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm a little peculiar in enjoying the type of tasks I used to set my pupils, but on the long car journey home, after my Ipod stopped working and I finished my book, writing poems with only 21 words seemed a normal thing to do...

The Door

"Well," I thought,
"I best give it a push..."
So I did
And it opened up a world
of delicious delights

I think you should have a go too. And I also think you should stop lurking in the shadows and put a 21 word poem (or any other message) in the comments. Please? It would be fun, don't you think?
